In 2008 in the framework of All-Russian collection of The Rare books the Vologda regional library started to work on the making of a regional collection of «The Rare books of the Vologda region”.
The purposes of the collection are the identification, study, preservation, giving information about the rare books of federal and regional levels, stored in libraries, museums and archives of the Vologda region.
The rare books are manuscript and printed editions, and book collections with outstanding spiritual, artistic and material value, which have special social, scientific and cultural significance. A special regime of registration, storage and use is established for such books. According to the degree of historical and cultural value of books they are divided into global, national, regional (state) and local (municipal).
The regional collection "The rare books of the Vologda region" includes three registers:
“Stocks of the rare books”
It includes description of rare books stocks, formed in libraries, museums, archives, and educational institutions of the Vologda region.
“Collections of the rare books”
It includes information about the collections held by libraries, museums, archives, and educational institutions of the Vologda region.
“A single rare book”
The register intends to include a description of the publications Federal level identified in libraries, museums, archives, and educational institutions of the Vologda region. Also unique full-text collections of the rare books will be presented.
